About the event
Prior to settlement in the 1720s, 98% of PEI was forested. By 1900 this had been reduced to 27%. While no areas of PEI remain completely untouched, there are examples of old growth forest. We'll walk through one of the best examples in eastern PEI to look at some of the specialized - and often rare - plants that live there. We may also find some interesting fungi and animals (or sign), and will talk about how old growth forests differ from other woodlands on PEI. Registration for this event will open a couple of weeks in advance, and will be limited to 15 people to ensure a quality experience.
