About the event
Bogs are fascinating and ecologically-important habitats with a TON of cool plants! They are also among the oldest habitats on PEI, and can tell us a lot about how this landscape changed since the end of the last Ice Age about 13,000 years ago.
We'll look at the stories the bog tells, as well as the plants that live there. This is peak orchid season and there should be several species in flower, along with carniverous, provincially-rare, edible, and toxic species (spoiler alert: the most toxic plant in North America grows at this site!).
It's about a 1.5 kilometre walk along the Confederation Trail to get to the bog. You'll want either comfortable rubber boots or walking shoes you don't mind getting wet, along with a hat and/or sunscreen. This event goes rain or shine (within reason).
