Are you curious about - or maybe even a bit nervous of - wild mushrooms? This workshop will dispel some common mushroom myths, explore the essential roles fungi play in our environment, and teach you how to identify some of the Island's common mushroom species and groups. It's hard to predict exactly which species will be up, but this site typically has a good assortment of fungi, including some edible species.
As a botanist, I am not a mushroom expert (mushrooms are more closely related to animals than they are to plants), but I have been studying them for the past several years and am now comfortable with close to 100 local species or groups (and have taste-tested about 30 wild species).
