Kate MacQuarrie's book named Creative Publication of the Year
At a ceremony in Summerside today, the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation presented its annual awards in categories including Genealogy, Architecture, Natural Heritage, Performing Arts, Heritage Activism, and Publishing. Kate MacQuarrie's book, Wild Foods of Prince Edward Island, was named Creative Publication of the Year.

The citation read as follows:
In natural heritage circles, Kate MacQuarrie needs no introduction. She has served as the Executive Director of Island Nature Trust and is currently Director of the Provincial Forests, Fish and Wildlife Division. She is the author of numerous books and articles about the Island's natural spaces. But did you know she is also an avid and experienced forager?
MacQuarrie's book 'Wild Foods of Prince Edward Island' serves as an introduction to the abundance in our own backyards. MacQuarrie believes that foraging can - and should - move beyond the basic question of "can I eat this?" and be a tool for us all to see the world around us in new ways. To that end, she has chosen 30 of her favourite wild foods, representing all seasons and habitats, and even shares some of her personal recipes. Because foraging isn't just about edible food, it can be about delicious food, too.
For her book 'Wild Foods of Prince Edward Island', Kate MacQuarrie is presented with the Creative Publication of the Year Award.
