Recognition of excellence in natural history communication
The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation recently presented Kate MacQuarrie with a 2023 Heritage Recognition Award.
The citation reads, in part: “MacQuarrie writes clearly and concisely, making sometimes complex subjects understandable to those without degrees in biology. She is always willing to share her knowledge, despite a busy schedule. Her articles in The Island Magazine and her posts on social media draw from a wide range of personal experience and research to present a solid background on topics from botany to geology. For her willingness to consistently develop a better understanding of nature and share her knowledge with others, Kate MacQuarrie is receiving a Heritage Recognition Award.”
The Award recognizes Kate's decades of efforts to educate Islanders and others about the natural world around them. "Society has become disconnected from the very nature it depends on", she said. "Through education, I hope to restore some of that connection and foster a deeper appreciation for conservation".
